Upstairs is a layered abstract work in which soft, earthy tones are intersected by powerful black lines. On the right, a ladder can be seen, referencing the title. This can represent anything: an invisible place that is nonetheless intuitively experienced. As is often the case in the work of Uschi Klaas, she never explains exactly what she means. Instead, with this painting, she invites the viewer to look, to feel, and to discover their own meaning.
