Sunshine Reggae

Willem Lenssinck
Following the great success of the Sunshine, Willem Lenssinck created a variation. A reclining female figure, but now with a rasta or reggae hairstyle. She still appears to float, but has slightly more contact with the plinth, particularly through her forearm. The front of the sculpture is made of flat relief, which accounts for the somewhat ‘Asian’ appearance of the face, being less prominent than a Western face. The surprise lies in the back of the sculpture, which is fully rendered in 3D as a real woman's body. The sleek design, combined with two sculptural disciplines, results in a surprising image of a woman and has never before been shaped in this way in sculpture.
