Cheerful Warrior

Juan Garcia Ripollés
In Guerrero Alegre, the warrior possesses a different tension than in Guerrero Verde. The facial expression and the angle make it somewhat more cheerful. The bow and arrows make the figure more alert and purposeful, though the arrows also resemble paintbrushes. The body is compact and sturdily built. The upward gaze creates movement and draws focus. The warrior's hair is made of braided iron wire. Much like the horseshoe of Nina Marron, this represents an original use of materials. The warrior appears to be celebrating. The work is presented behind anti-reflective museum glass, allowing the form, color, and detail to be fully appreciated.
