The title Panta Rhei refers to Heraclitus’ idea that everything is in a constant state of flux and change. This philosophy resonates with Eugène Brands’ artistic approach, in which movement, becoming, and inner energy are central. Although Brands is associated with the CoBrA movement, his work is more contemplative and cosmic in nature. In this gouache, fluid, organic forms and an intense yet harmonious use of color express a sense of continuous transformation. Panta Rhei balances spontaneity and reflection, demonstrating how Brands transforms the concept of movement into a poetic image.
