One Stone
Lika Mutal
Lika Mutal communicated with her stones, viewing each stone as a vessel of time and energy. The three parts in 'One Stone' originally belonged to a single stone, discovered in the Peruvian desert near her studio in Lima. Mutal regarded the stones as emissaries of the earth, shaped by millions of years of geophysical forces. Through careful opening, processing, and reassembling, she reveals their inner tension and coherence. The work reflects her reverence for Pachamama, the spirit of the earth, and her conviction that stone is not passive matter but a living interlocutor.
