Mr. 999999

Willem Lenssinck
Mr. 999999 didn't make it, addresses the theme that humans want to go faster and faster. The first idea was a life-sized human figure, bent forward on roller skates. A car gearbox mounted on the back. The sculpture is compressed into a strange kind of head, with speedometer and wheels – at least one wheel, the other flew off due to the speed. Here too a gearbox with overdrive. The long nose accentuates the speed. He doesn't make the last kilometer. Hence 999,999 km. A logical sequel to this sculpture was the 1HP Automaton.
