Juan Garcia Ripollés

The title Sol means: Sun. But look at how Ripollés suggests movement and stillness with such apparent simplicity. The arms are rays—not thin, but remarkably thick. The round face possesses a great deal of shimmer. Yet together, they form round, soft shapes that depict rhythm and balance. After all, the sun stands still, but what happens within it is beyond words. That contrast creates yet another very cheerful work of art.
